All installers working on pipelines that connect to municipal pipelines and systems must be PMBWELD301E accredited for butt welding and PMBWELD302E for electrofusion installation.

This is a key part of ensuring the safety and longevity of our high-pressure,critical pipelines.

In Australia, this qualification is a nationally-recognised qualification obtained through a Registered Training Organisation.

Why accreditation is necessary

Ensures competency: Electrofusion requires precise steps, and proper training ensures the operator understands and executes them correctly to create strong, reliable joints.

Guarantees quality: A qualified welder is better equipped to handle factors like preparation, timing, temperature, and pressure, leading to higher-quality welds and fewer errors.

Aligns with standards: Training and certification ensure the installer is up to date with the latest industry standards and safety procedures, such as those outlined in the Australian Standards AS/NZS 2033.

Reduces risk: Untrained operators significantly increase the risk of joint failure, which can be costly and dangerous, especially in gas-carrying pipelines.

How to become accredited

Complete a training course: Enroll in a poly welding course offered by a PIPA-recognised or accredited Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Demonstrate competency: You will need to demonstrate your skills and knowledge during the training, which includes hands-on components.

Obtain certification: After successfully completing the course, you will receive a certificate of competency and a training statement.

Maintain your qualification: It is recommended to undergo re-accreditation every few years to stay current with industry practices and technology
